Our Snake River Adventures

Our Snake River Adventures.
8/21/09
Well,we made a reservation for a 4 hour rafting trip at the Snake River and through the gorge, about 10 miles with grades 2 and 3 rapids. We had 2 rafts with 8 people each plus guides. We started out with light rapids, easy to get through, but then came the bigger ones and we where getting wet,but had fun.And then came big rapids,we had to concentrade on paddeling through and by the end of our trip we where all soaking wet, lauphing and had a phantastic time.We dont have any photos from it,but the Operator made a vidio from the side of the Gorge and of the largest rapids. It came out pretty good, but his hands where not very steady with the camera.
The next day we left Idaho into Oregon on Hwy.84.At an Infocenter the lady told us to continue on Hwy.84 to Baker City, then take the 7 to the Hwy.26,which would be a much niecer scenic drive. So we took her advise. In baker City we read about the Hells Canyon, about 70 miles away along the Idaho-Oregon Border. It is the deepest Canyon in North America, supposedly deeper then the Grand Canyon.
So we changed our timetable and drove there the next morning and found a campground in the Canyon right on the River. Then we took the Tracker and drove along the river 22 miles to the end of the road,a little beyond the Hells Canyon Dam.What a magnificend drive that was, sometimes even with the water, then again way obove. We were so glad to add this trip to our adventures.Next day we made a sidetrip to an outlook high in the mountains. It was a phantastic drive and view. But for the last mile or so we noticed a noise at the right front weel.Since there was nothing to see,Heinz took off the Weel and found it was a bad Weelbearing. What to do now??We where almost 8000 feet high and 45 miles away from our RV.But we had no choice,as to try to get down without loosing the whole Weel.We where scared, but we made it down, but the next City was Baker City,70 miles away.Heinz took the Weel off again and put a lot off grease into the Bearing, then hooked the car up to the RV the next morning and we hoped for the best..Well we made it to Baker City ,found a good repair shop. Both front Weelbearings had to be replaced plus the breakpads. While we where waiting the next day,we went to the Oregon Trail Interpretation Center and Museum. It was so very interesting done,we spend over 3 hours there. On the way back we could pick up our car and the next morning we went on our way again. We took then the Hwy7 and 26 west, stopped a couple of days in John Day at a very nice State Campground, and today we are in La Pine at Hwy 97 south of Bend,Oregon,so we had a few relaxing days after all that trouble and exitement.
